Span created the visual campaign for the SOM Foundation’s 2023–24 Awards focused around the theme ”Adapting Housing Strategies to Respond to New Realities.” 3D animated people interact with different letterforms to suggest activities of home such as sleeping, communing, dining, dancing, and debating. People existing outside the letters interact more transitionally, either standing in groups or walking. All animated models are taken from software used in architectural renderings and visualization.

By using letters as a metaphor for home, the campaign expresses on the real value that housing provides — shelter and community — without having to express a single architectural or urban form that might influence the types of submissions from design students.
