RE is a deck of cards published by Span offering 54 reflections on reusing, recycling, repurposing, and reconsidering the new in design. Conceived for design students, the cards serve a dual purpose — to inspire new thinking around the premise of ”reuse” while also functioning as a deck of playing cards.

The front side of the cards feature collages made of objects found both online and on city streets. Each collage makes up a different ”face card” within one of the four ”suits” — branch, glove, leaf, and wire — together with numerical cards from two to ten.

On the back, simple statements are posed to provoke different ways of thinking creatively. Similar to Oblique Strategies by Peter Schmidt and Brian Eno, the reflections aim to be an asset to designers who are struggling with a creative problem and are seeking a different perspective.
