Designed while at Thirst
ON TO 2050 — metropolitan Chicago’s 30-year comprehensive urban plan — was launched with a new brand, executive summary, and website. Following the legacy established by Daniel Burnham, regional planning agency CMAP authored a holistic and comprehensive plan guided by three key principles: Inclusive Growth, Resilience, and Prioritized Investment.
Art direction for many visuals featured within the plan were created in collaboration with photographer Dave Burk and urban design firm UrbanLab to create a visual palette for the region's present and future.
”I have the ON TO 2050 executive summary and poster in my hands and they are both stunning. I can’t wait for you all to see them. These are just a part of the enormous contribution design has made to ON TO 2050 and CMAP, but I want to thank you for your hard work on these pieces — it is truly appreciated and we can’t wait to distribute them tomorrow.”

The plan launch event invited nearly 1,000 attendees to hear public support for the plan
from Mayor Rahm Emanuel and county board chairs including Cook County chair Toni Preckwinkle.
