Designing for Legacy. Built to Last.
John Pobojewski led Span in crafting a forward-thinking streetscape toolkit—rooted in La Grange Park’s new brand identity and designed to stand the test of time. The process began with deep community engagement and a full signage audit, drawing insights from over 100 residents who highlighted everyday challenges getting around the Village.
This input shaped a cohesive, modern system for signage, lighting, placemaking, and street furniture—one that respects La Grange Park’s heritage while embracing its future. Designed to roll out over decades, the system is smart, scalable, and built for longevity. Every sign type was structured with logic and flexibility in mind, even accounting for services not yet available but likely to emerge.
Material choices honor both the new identity and existing infrastructure, using black powder-coated steel, bronze accents, Corten steel, and Prairie brick—echoing local textures and tones. Typography strictly follows ADA 2018 standards, boosting legibility and accessibility throughout the village.
The result is a timeless visual system documented in a detailed 50-page manual—covering everything from street furniture and lighting to pavers, banners, shelters, wayfinding, and placemaking. It’s a toolkit built not just for now, but for generations to come.
