For Intuit Art Museum’s renovated building, Span created signage and wayfinding systems that clearly guide visitors and reflect the museum’s identity. Above the entry door, a bird sculpture with a glowing eye was inspired by artist Lee Godie, designed by Bud Rodecker of Span, and built by Matthew Hoffman, known for Chicago’s You Are Beautiful project. On IAM’s façade, Bob Faust’s Wallwork (iam an Artist) (2025) pays tribute to this legacy, featuring artwork by artists such as Henry Darger, Pauline Simon, Dr. Charles Smith, and Betty Zakoian.
Inside the museum, Span developed accessible ADA-compliant signs and intuitive wayfinding. Donor recognition signs drew from Jesse Howard’s typographic paintings, incorporating the historical typeface Original Sans by Commercial Type. The slightly crude and characterful letters of Original Sans visually align with Howard’s naive brush lettering.
Donor signs stand slightly off the wall, creating subtle connections between the museum's art, architecture, and visitor experience, reflecting the project's theme of "Serendipitous Connections."
