Archetypes is a designed object pop-up shop featuring prototypes, passion projects, and other one-of-a-kind items produced by the Chicago architecture and design community. Pieces range from chairs and tables to glassware, ceramics, and artwork, with a focus on singular pieces that are iterations of a larger creative and design process.
Span worked with the Chicago Architecture Center to design a simple exhibition identity and graphics to complement the designed objects in the space. The fonts used in the identity are prototypes in their own right. The title is set in Garland, designed by Bud Rodecker as an homage to Ken Garland’s Graphics Handbook book cover. The secondary typeface is a prototype from Okay Type called Steak, set to be released in 2024.
