Nick Butcher

Nick Butcher is an artist, author, designer, musician, and printmaker. His exploratory creative practice aims to balance expressive intuition and thoughtful execution as means of research and discovery. He is interested in experimentation as a productive means of form finding and is endlessly fascinated by the expansive nature of the graphic arts. His long-term collaborative practice with his partner Nadine Nakanishi under the name Sonnenzimmer has shaped this approach.

His graphic work with Sonnenzimmer is collected by over 40 institutions worldwide, including The Art Institute of Chicago, Museum für Gestaltung Zürich’s Plakatsammlung, Yale University, and Princeton University, who hold Sonnenzimmer’s complete archive of printed matter. Along with Nadine Nakanishi, he has been named in NewCity’sDesign 50 Hall of Fame on numerous occasions and his work has been featured in several publications on design and printmaking such as Print Magazine and Chicago Tribune. Nick has lectured and performed internationally with Sonnenzimmer and alone.
