Job posting: Designer

As a full-time designer at Span, you will collaborate with partners, design principals, and senior designers on design explorations and implementing received direction. You will be responsible for independently prioritizing your tasks and workday, as well as generating design presentations. Our studio works from home on Mondays and Fridays and in-person Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays in our studio on Lake Street in Chicago.

This is a full-time salaried position requiring at least 40 hours a week with benefits, including 100% healthcare coverage, optional dental and vision plans, as well as monthly retirement contributions. The salary offer will be between $40,000–$50,000 depending on experience.

There will be an initial portfolio review by all partners to shortlist selected candidates. All candidates who applied will be emailed about their selection status. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to up to two separate Zoom interviews with the partners and studio members. We will notify the final candidate via email before their start date in April.

Span is a multidisciplinary studio that specializes in designing across all media. The ideal candidate will have experience designing brands across multiple disciplines, primarily focusing on branding, web, and environmental graphics. Candidates should be self-motivated, creative, and curious, have keen attention to detail, and be proficient in the Adobe Creative Suite.

Overview

  • 1–3 years of professional experience

  • Self-initiated and well organized with good time management skills

  • Solid communication skills — both written and verbal

  • Strong typographic skills and keen attention to detail

  • Proficient in the Adobe Creative Suite

  • Experience designing for print, web, and environmental graphics is a must

  • Experience with Figma is a plus

  • Eager to learn, excited to collaborate, and open to critical feedback

  • Experience with file production including preparing files for print and for web development
